About Helmholtz Information

Scientific advances in digital and industrial key technologies are increasingly shaping strategic autonomy and competitiveness in a highly dynamic international environment. In this context, Helmholtz Information pursues the mission to enable the secure collection, storage, processing, transfer, and use of information, and to translate scientific advances into resilient and high-performance digital technologies.

Helmholtz Information connects fundamental scientific discovery with the development of enabling methods and platforms, and their responsible transfer into application. Helmholtz Information advances the understanding of information processing across natural, artificial, and cognitive systems, while exploring new materials, concepts, and computing paradigms that extend the limits of performance, efficiency, and sustainability.

Its research portfolio is implemented through three Programs:

  • Transforming Information Processing
  • Biological and Artificial Intelligence: Learning from Living Systems
  • Information-driven Materials Systems Discovery

Together, they address key challenges in areas such as AI, future computing, digitalized materials research, and digitalized life and brain sciences, supported by unique research infrastructures, curated datasets, and strong partnerships within and beyond the Helmholtz Association. The portfolio is further strengthened by selected signature projects that highlight key innovations, as well as cross-cutting activities that enhance integration across programs and foster collaboration.

Further information on Helmholtz Information, including its research priorities, programs, and infrastructures, is available via the Collaboration Cloud.
